A Family Nurse Practitioner, Sarah Woods has opened Volition Health and Wellness in Platinum Suites on Thompson Drive. It was her former Morgantown practice and the conversations with patients that inspired the Bridgeport facility; one that focuses on two primary concerns: Hormone replacement therapy and weight loss management.
“As a primary care provider, I’ve had multiple people come tell me they were seeking hormone replacement therapy and couldn’t get anyone to do anything about it,” she said.
Though she enjoyed all aspects of primary care, Woods became very interested in shifting her profession to address this need and a passion developed. She studied age management and began her specialized practice.
“It felt good to see people happy in their bodies again – whether due to replacing hormones or helping them with weight loss,” she said.
Woods said modern hormone replacement is safe and is a viable solution.
“Whenever we are younger, we have an abundance of hormones that make us feel great. When we get older and into menopause – or andropause for men – we feel fatigued, gain weight, have skin issues and mental clarity issues,” she said. “Hormone therapy puts those hormones in your body to make you feel youthful again.”
As a result, weight – especially from the mid-section – can somewhat decrease, energy begins to return and there are even benefits for bone and joint health, Woods said.
Since opening in September of 2025, Woods said she has treated people for both weight loss and hormone replacement. And she treats some for both, which is totally safe, she said.
For hormone replacement, blood work is the first step. Different hormones are administered differently.
“Estrogen is not safe to take in pill form, so we treat with patches or creams,” Woods said. “Progesterone in a capsule is totally safe or we use creams. With testosterone, a man can get injections if he is comfortable with that or we can use a cream. In women, we don’t want to inject testosterone because we want it to increase slowly.”
Weight loss is treated with medications when appropriate. Woods also provides diet and exercise advice, as well as skin care recommendations.
Woods was inspired to pursue the medical field because of her parents, both of whom worked as nurses as she was growing up..
She became an RN in 2017 and went on to FNP school in 2019, passing her boards in 2021.
In recent years, she practiced at Busy Moms Healthcare, a Morgantown-based women’s health clinic.
At Volition Health and Wellness, Woods does not accept insurance. She feels charging a set affordable rate results in no surprises as to what insurance may cover.
Woods also offers Botox at her new practice.
“It’s not my main focus, but it’s an aesthetic service that I wanted to offer because people like it,” she said.
