Summer Kickoff has quickly become a bright spot on the Bridgeport calendar. Hosted by the Associated Businesses of Bridgeport in partnership with the City of Bridgeport, the event ushers in the summer season with live entertainment, seasonal activities and refreshments, a car cruise-in and competitive opportunities that embody small-town USA spirit.

The fun continues into 2025.

The ABB Summer Kickoff and Food Truck Festival will take place 4-6 p.m. Saturday, May 31 in downtown Bridgeport. Main Street will be closed to traffic while residents gather to celebrate the summer season.

There are a few different ways for businesses to get involved and play a role in the annual event. ABB member businesses are invited and encouraged to set up a tent or booth and treat the public to giveaways and/or a fun activity. In the past, booths featured fishing and ring toss games, bubble blowing, art stations, and much more.

All businesses which pay business and occupation tax to the City of Bridgeport are eligible for membership in the ABB. Dues are just $95 per year, all collective funds going back into events including Summer Kickoff, Light Up Night, Light up Our City home decorating contest and the Main Street Scarecrow Display and Contest. Car enthusiasts will enjoy the classic cars and other stunners which will be shined up and lined up along Main Street. Always a memorable moment will be the traditional beach ball drop as balls cascade from the top of buildings around the Main Street/Center Street intersection and student dancers will perform.

Back for 2025 is the T&L Hotdog eating contest. In the past, competitors have consumed dozens of dogs; winners eating as many as 50. For the second year, Della’s Deli will sponsor a pie-baking contest with members of Bridgeport city government serving as judges.
