Local businesses have joined forces to bring you a spectacular fireworks display on July 4. Hosted by the Greater Bridgeport Convention & Visitors Bureau and sponsored by Jenkins Subaru, City of Bridgeport, Central Supply, Jenkins Ford, Colombo Law, RDR Energy Resources, Energy Transportation, Clarksburg CVB and WDTV 5 News, Fireworks on the Hill – Bridgeport Hill – begins at 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 4.
Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to secure a spot in parking lots located at Home Depot, Goodwill, Gabe’s and Big Lots, Eastpointe and New Pointe.
“The residents of North Central West Virginia love this event,” said Sam Olivio, account executive with WDTV News Channel 5, event media sponsor. “Families start coming out around 5 p.m. to tailgate – setting up their chairs, blankets, and grills. The parking lot starts filling up around 6 p.m. and the kids have a blast.”
WDTV sponsored the event which ran 2014 through 2019, then came to a halt the first year of the COVID pandemic. It returned in 2023, but due to various circumstances, it didn’t happen in 2024. Thanks to sponsoring entities and area business sponsors, it is back for 2025.
It’s a tradition that dates back several decades.
“The event was known in North Central West Virginia for 40 years when Hills Department Store was still in business,” Olivio said.
Greater Bridgeport CVB Executive Director Cassie Busdeker is among those who remember gathering with family and friends for the annual show.
“I have such fond memories of spending time watching the fireworks growing up. We are so excited to be able to bring back this family tradition,” she said.
Bridgeport and Clarksburg police and fire departments will provide traffic assistance and be on hand for any situations that may arise.
