The City of Bridgeport announced this week on social media that the Compton Park Playground facility is back open at the park.
During the February meeting of Bridgeport City Council, approval was given to provide $80,000 to replace the project. The aging playground equipment had started an escrow account for replacement and had $20,000 already set aside when it was determined to be unsafe.
At the February meeting, the city’s governing body approved a general fund budget revision to provide the needed funds to get the replacement underway. The funds came from Bridgeport Parks and Recreation 3 percent cut of the city’s hotel and motel tax.
Parks and Recreation Director Joe Shuttleworth, who is currently serving as interim city manager, said in February that it was the oldest playground at any park in the city.
