For those looking for something to do with their children as summer gets into full swing, an annual event is back that may help on that front. The 2025 Indians Football Youth Camp will return to Wayne Jamison Field in June.
According to Travis Jones, the “Voice of the Indians” who helps run multiple events for the program, the camp will be held on Friday, June 19. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. with the camp running from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Last year was the first time the event was held during the evening. It was moved due to periods of excessive heat in those earlier hours, and last year worked out well, Jones said.
As always, food will be provided as part of the $40 fee.
“It’s a lot of fun with stations with individual instruction, and we’ll also have our highly popular water balloon fight at the end of camp, along with a tug of war with varsity players,” said Jones. “We try to make sure kids learn football and have a good time and have the opportunity to meet some of the players they’ll see under the Friday nights.”
There will be group stations and
individual attention as needed. The camp will focus on the fundamentals, and there will also be plenty of fun. Although it is open to anyone beyond Bridgeport, one of the key components of the camp is to let the kids meet and work with the current Bridgeport High School coaching staff and current players.

Jones said all participants will get a T-shirt and have food provided at the end of camp. For those wanting to guarantee a shirt size, you must register by June 5. Registration can be done after that, as well as in person, on the day of the event.
As for the age group, the camp is open to those involved from the Mighty Mite to Midget levels mirrored in Bridgeport Youth Football.
Last year, the camp had numbers in the mid-80s, Jones said. He said it often reaches 100 participants with most being from the
Bridgeport feeder system, but a handful do show up from other areas and are welcome. He said he anticipates the same number this year.
