Citing data from a study conducted by Niche, USA Today has ranked Bridgeport High School as the No. 2 school and No. 1 public high school for athletes in West Virginia.

The story says the data “accounts for survey feedback from students and parents—accounting for ‘reviews of athletics, number of state championships, student participation in athletics, and the number of sports offered at the school’—and data from the U.S. Department of Education.”

The formula is 50% voluntary parent/student surveys, self-reported by Niche users, 20% enrollment, 10% K12 sports championships, 10% number of sports (which the survey reports at 13, which is not correct as Bridgeport participates in all 19 WVSSAC-sanctioned sports this year), 5% boys athletic participation, and 5% girls athletic participation.
