One day coworkers Abby Elliott and Naomi Smith decided they could combine their skills and shared passion to open a unique new business. That day was just a few weeks ago. On Monday, Nov. 18, they opened the doors to The Spa on Main, offering a holistic, organic head-to-toe spa experience.
An esthetician and yoga instructor, Abby Elliott specializes in everything from facials and chemical peels to yoga and meditation. Lash, brow and tanning services are also available.
A massage therapist, Naomi Smith specializes in Swedish, deep tissue and hot stone massage, as well as reflexology, ear candling and other services.
“We wanted to do something unique in Bridgeport, so we decided just four weeks ago that we wanted to empower women and do our own thing,” Smith said.
When they discovered that 208 East Main Street was available for rent, things quickly began falling into place.
“I used to teach yoga there, so I knew the setup and layout of the space,” Elliott said. “We knew it would make a great spa.”
Another interest they share is thrifting and antiquing, so they began gathering unique items to feature at the spa.
Elliott set up a website and Facebook page and word quickly spread. During their first week of business, they have both had busy schedules.
“I think what makes our spa unique is that we are holistic and organic. Honestly, there is a lot of toxic stuff out there that people don’t know about,” Elliott said. “Women think the cosmetic industry has their best interests at heart and it really doesn’t.”
Their goal, the women said, is to enlighten and educate women and offer healthy, viable options.
“We customize to everyone’s skin. Everyone’s different and what works for one might not work for another,” Elliott said “We curate treatments based on each individual.”
Herbal tea0-infused hot towels are used with facial and massage services.
“We also take that tea and infuse it into serums, toners and masks,” Elliott said.
One treatment she is excited to offer is the soothing rose facial.
“It’s such a great treatment. Rose is all organic, all-natural and is anti-aging; full of Vitamin A,” she said. “A lot of clients have acne, rosacea, or dermatitis and it’s a great option for everyone as it helps to push out all the bad bacteria while honoring the good bacteria on the skin.”
That process is known as the microbiome skin connection; a new and fascinating science and one Elliott said she puts into practice.
The most common massage, Smith said, is the Swedish massage; typically 80 minutes of relaxation. The deep tissue massage is more suitable for individuals that have specific knots to work out from exercise or over exertion. For both, she uses an organic massage cream.

Smith also offers prenatal massage for women beyond their first trimester. Using a prenatal pillow, clients are made comfortable for massage of back, shoulders, arms and legs. It is great for those encountering back and sciatic pain during pregnancy, she said.
The owners of The Spa on Main want to focus on working with clients from the inside out and incorporating lifestyle to achieve best results.
“Coming to the spa can only do so much, but using cleansing oils at home can help maintain results,” Smith said.
Elliott even incorporates sound healing for a total mind, body and skin connection.
Services at The Spa on Main are by appointment only. Smith’s services are available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Elliott’s are available Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Both are former employees of Rejuvenation Med Spa.
