There is a fresh look along Benedum Drive, and it is not only across the street from the entrance to The Bridge, but it is from The Bridge.
On Tuesday, May 12, city workers installed a new sign at Bridgeport Maintenance Annex building, which is still relatively new.
“It’s part of a signage program that we’ve been doing,” said Interim City Manager Joe Shuttleworth. “You will see the signs at the (Bridgeport) Cemetery, the city garage, and the wastewater treatment plant. There are several places where the city, over the last couple of years, has determined to put in signs to go along with city branding.”
Shuttleworth said many individuals had no idea what was situated at the site, including thousands of visitors who travel to The Bridge each year. He also said it helps reduce the number of deliveries to the property.
While the others mentioned are 100 percent new, the one at the maintenance annex is 100 percent recycled. And it came from The Bridge.
“When we rebranded the baseball complex, we had one of the large city signs that said ‘Recreation Complex’ on it that matches the sign for Bridgeport City Park. We had taken it out of operation,” said Shuttleworth. “I had the sign company that made to redo it, and clean it up, refurbish it, and reskin it for the maintenance facility that is there.”
Shuttleworth said the only additional costs were for the foundation. The labor for that work, as well as the installation, was done by city staff.
