Starting today, the City of Bridgeport is holding its annual Spring Cleanup.

The cleanup runs Monday, May 4 through Friday, May 15.

Kerr said earlier that the event has become one of the most popular services provided by the city. She said it has become two-fold in its purpose.

“The main thing is that it allows residents to get rid of unwanted items in their homes,” she said. “At the same time, a neighbor, or someone going past some of the disposed items can pick some up and repurpose them.”

Kerr reminded residents that the no-charge pickup is only done in the spring.

She added that the amount collected by Waste Management has been consistent in recent years.

“The tonnage collected is in the same range. The pickup totals between 90 and 100 tons each year, which is a significant amount,” Kerr said.
