A business site at Meadowbrook Mall that became empty after a national brand that occupied it for more than three decades at the facility is about to have a new tenant, according to a mall official.
Property Manager Robin Urquhart confirmed that Jet Life #1 Apparel, a regional store that focuses on urban clothing, will be opening what Urquhart believes is its second location in West Virginia. She said they had recently signed a lease to operate in Bridgeport.
The new store will be in the former spot of rue21. Despite doing well in Bridgeport, the company closed all its stores nationwide. The city retail spot closed in mid-2024. It began operations at the Meadowbrook Mall, according to the Bridgeport Finance Department, in April of 1993.
“It is always a good thing when a vacant spot sees a new tenant, and we are confident this one will be well received,” said Urquhart. “They currently have a location at the Huntington Mall where they specialize in urban clothing, mainly focused on men’s apparel.”
Urquhart said that may not be the case in Bridgeport. She said store owners have seen an increased demand for women’s clothing and could opt for more options for both male and female.
As for the opening date, Urquhart was not sure. She said she believes in May or June but said that could change.
“This will be new and different. It’s not national but having it owned locally always adds excitement and brings a unique flavor to our shoppers,” she said.
The store will occupy 3,600 square feet. They appeared to have had or may still have a Charleston location. No one answered after multiple phone calls.
