When was the last time you saw Adam Sandler, Spiderman and Bluey & Bingo hanging around Main Street in Bridgeport? Most might say last October during the Associated Businesses of Bridgeport Downtown Scarecrow Display.
Not so surprising with the lightning speed of time, it is that time of year again. At a recent board meeting, the ABB set dates and details for this year’s festivities.
Dues-paying members of the ABB can register for this year’s display and contest by filling out a form which can be downloaded HERE. They will then be assigned a lamppost along Main Street where they can display this year’s clever creations between Oct. 1-7.
Scarecrows must be constructed from durable materials that will endure weather and should be between five and six feet tall. They should be secured to the light post facing oncoming traffic. Zip ties are recommended for attaching to the light post.
Connect-Bridgeport will take photos Oct. 8 and 9 after which photos will be published on Connect-Bridgeport where voting will take place through Oct. 30. In addition to this people’s choice award, a panel of judges will visit all scarecrows and through a scoring system will choose one to take this year’s judges’ award. All winners will be announced on Oct. 31.
Families can get visit with the scarecrows during the third annual Trick-or-Treat with the Scarecrows to be held 4-5:30 p.m. Sun., Oct. 25. Bridgeport Volunteers in Police Services will patrol street traffic as participants visit scarecrows and receive treats from their business hosts. During this time, folks are also welcome to stop by the Benedum Civic Center for refreshments and to vote for your favorite carved pumpkin.
