Market on Main in downtown Bridgeport is hosting a Trunk or Treat event on Oct 29. Leading up to that time, the store is also hosting a costume drive. Kids’ costumes can be dropped off at the store, where those wishing to use them for the Halloween season can pick them up on Oct 16; no strings attached.
“Halloween costumes are so expensive and I’m sure people have old cones laying around their houses,” said Market on Main owner Perris Reed. “You don’t have to bring a costume to get a costume. And it’s totally free.”
Reed said it was her own children that inspired the used costume drive.
“I was cooking dinner and my kids got out the basket of old Halloween costumes and they were running around the house in all different costumes and the idea to hold a drive just came to me,” she said.
The drive will take place through Oct. 14. On Oct. 16, families are invited to Market on Main to pick out one free Halloween costume per child.
“Costumes can be picked on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last,” Reed said.
Remaining costumes will be donated to Genesis Youth Crisis Center in Clarksburg for use at the organization’s Halloween party.
Market on Main’s Trunk or Treat event will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. Kids will be treated to games and costume parade. The Lunchbox Food Truck will be on hand for food and drink purchases.
Featuring the works of dozens of area artisans and an organic grocery, the store is located at 103 West Main Street, Bridgeport. Hours of operation are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The store is closed on Mondays.
